The Vocational Training School Project

Our inaugural project will be the building of a three-year vocational school located in Lagos, Nigeria. It will offer a two-year high school and one-year university level education.

The program will include: Art and Advertising Design, Visual Arts (rather than in one specific medium, students will pursue digital media, drawing, new genres, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video art), Fashion, Radio/TV/Film, Theater Arts, Communication Arts, and Music. Upon completion students will awarded be a certificate comparable to an Associates degree. The staff will be composed of volunteers, full-time and visiting art professionals who are committed to providing a generous, intense and intellectually curious environment wherein artists of unusual promise can develop their visual arts practice within a community of peers.

After gaining a broad-based training in the visual arts with a traditional liberal arts education and a solid foundation in design, drawing, and art history, each student can opt to continue their education in an institution of higher learning. Students seeking to pursue further education will be assisted with scholarships. All students will be provided exposure and assisted with job placements.

Art inspires dignity, respect, pride, and freedom of expression, imagination, recognition of the individual, creativity, excellence and human rights.

Art from the school will be exhibited in public spaces throughout Africa in the form of billboards, banners, exhibitions and posters. Endorsements of this project is solicited from all.

Funding is required to:  Purchase land, build the school, purchase equipment and school supplies, provide scholarships, pay for administration, and non-volunteer teachers and personnel, utilities, and maintenance.

Initial estimated funding required for the school to be fully operational is $45,000
