Isaiah Washington IV (born 3 August 1963), is an African American actor. A DNA test taken to determine his heritage showed that his father's side is Angolan and his mother's side is from Sierra Leone. Born in Houston, Texas, he was one of the first graduates from Willowridge High School, Houston, in 1981. He served in the United States Air Force prior to beginning a career as a professional actor. He has appeared in numerous films, and his television roles include Dr. Preston Burke in Grey's Anatomy. He married on 14 February 1999. Isaiah and Jenisa Marie Washington have two children. In 2005, Isaiah founded the Gondobay Foundation which aims to improve the quality of the lives of people of Sierra Leone. In November 2007, its first school, Chief Foday Golia Memorial School, was put up. Isaiah participated in the White House Summit on Malaria which wages the battle against malaria in Sierra Leone and other parts of Africa. He is also involved with Coalhouse Productions which aims to to get food for the needy of Los Angeles, California. | |
